Clarity in between
2025, Serie of photographies for contemplation
Clarity in between comprises 14 photographs created between 2009 and 2023. The series constitutes a visual inquiry into existential human themes, asking how beauty, as a transformative force, can enrich lived experience.
Seven themes form its core: Lifeforce, Friendship, Polarity, Culture, Serenity, Transience, and Devotion—each mirrored in two images.
The visual engagement with these seven core themes remains abstract, though the motifs themselves are concrete. The work positions itself within contemporary photographic discourse addressing acceleration and visual saturation. Following in the lineage of Rinko Kawauchi and Wolfgang Tillmans, it develops its own language of deceleration.
Unlike the documentary rigour of the New Topographics, Clarity in between seeks not the surface but the affective depth of the ordinary.
For most people, the exploration of these chosen themes does not belong to daily routine, yet they permeate everyone's existence continuously. Their conscious contemplation opens moments of meaning and fulfilment—herein lies the relevance of this work.
The work is open, not didactic. It demands no understanding but invites a perceiving with all senses. The photographs do not seek to impress but to sensitise: toward the understated, toward what is often overlooked. They show no climaxes but those quiet moments in which the quotidian reveals its radiance.
Thus emerges a field of tension between depth and lightness. The "in-between" here designates a state of openness—not before or after the event, but within the moment itself. In this presence, a form of clarity becomes perceptible that can be experienced as inspirational encounter.
The series activates a contemplative mode: not the work stands at the centre, but one's own perceptual process. Clarity in between releases vision from linear time and opens it to the present as autonomous experience.
Each image constitutes a visual proposition for deceleration. It interrupts the habitual flow of seeing and creates moments of concentrated presence. The quiet question "What if we paused?" translates into a pictorial invitation.
The series follows an aesthetic of immanence: beauty appears not as ideal but as inherent quality of the moment. In a world of growing complexity, it opens spaces for the appreciation of simplicity—for the breath between two thoughts, for the gaze that does not seek but finds.
This mode of perception contradicts the logic of the spectacular. It is grounded not in escalation but in presence. The motifs are deliberately quotidian: light falling through leaves, the vastness of the sea, the gaze into a woman's eyes—moments in which attention becomes clarity.
Clarity in between is no flight from the world but a return to it—with wakeful vision and receptive sensing. The series demonstrates that depth does not lie in distance but in the attentive seeing of what is already present: in the in-between, where clarity emerges.
In an era of visual oversaturation, Clarity in between positions itself as contemplative counterpoint: the series invites self-reflexive perception and opens a space beyond the attention economy.
